A Message From Our Founder

Welcome to Babiroo the home of Organic Cotton Baby Clothing and Accessories.

Babiroo is a brand that supports the global trend for all things green and ethical. This is our passion and we will continue to use materials that are in greater harmony with the Earth

I wanted to create a line that encompassed all the wishes and dreams of new parents: the softest, most natural materials to surround your baby, the highest quality design and construction, and just as importantly, the hope of a cleaner kinder earth.’

Why Organic?

Did you know that 8,000 different kinds of chemicals can go into the making of one item of clothing Just one!

At Babiroo, we care about customers… our real customers: babies and kids. Babies have immune systems that are not fully developed, making them more susceptible to infections and illnesses. Clothing them in apparel that is composed of chemicals compromises their overall health.

And let’s not forget the farmers and labourers who are working in those highly polluted conditions. Many cotton pickers from developing countries suffer from illnesses directly related to the chemicals they are exposed to. Health conditions such as respiratory issues, skin irritations and eye infections are very common.

That’s why we love spreading the word about organic cotton. We want to get back to that place when things were good and wholesome. Help Babiroo fulfil that dream.
Parents are gravitating towards organic baby clothing to limit the exposure that their little ones get to toxic chemicals that are used in the making of everyday fabrics. Non-organic baby clothing is often made from synthetic fibres manufactured with petrochemicals, acrylic (polycrylonitriles), PVC, and esters that are linked to a variety of health problems.
The trend of organic baby clothes is part of a larger trend towards organic clothing, as more people become aware of the significant effects that the textile industry has on our environment. Today nearly 20% of all water pollution occurs through the making of non-organic clothing.

Sustainable

Our organic cotton is grown at a Biodynamic farm in Egypt, called Sekem. Biodynamic agriculture is a method of Organic farming that applies a holistic understanding of life processes. As one of the first sustainable agriculture movements, it treats soil fertility, plant growth, and livestock care as ecologically interrelated tasks emphasising spiritual and cosmic perspectives. Sekem was founded on these principles of holistic and sustainable approach to organic agriculture and shares our values and commitment to sustainability.

Workers at the Sekem farm receive on-site healthcare, daycare and school for their children, as well as daily organic meals that are made from food grown right there on the farm.
In 2015, Sekem received The Land For Life Award from the United Nations Convention on Combating Desertification (UNCCD). Sekem is also certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and is a certified Fair Trade farm.
All of our products are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This means that our entire supply chain, is held to strict criteria of environmental and social standards.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) ensures sustainable and ethical manufacturing in all stages of production. This holds our company accountable to strict ecological and social criteria, including things like cotton cultivation, safe fabric finishes, sustainable packaging and fair treatment of workers. Everything about our products - from cotton harvest to product hangtag - adheres to the GOTS standard of ethical and sustainable production. The factory where our products are made are inspected annually to maintain the GOTS certification. Read more about GOTS criteria and guidelines on their website

We’re the first, and only, baby clothing company in the entire world to carry The Gold Seal of Egyptian Cotton. We’ve always exclusively used 100% authentic Egyptian Cotton for our products, but now we’ve gone the extra mile to earn the certification. Our cotton fibres underwent complete DNA testing to verify our fibres as authentic Egyptian Cotton. Only 1% of the entire world’s cotton is true Egyptian Cotton. The Egyptian Cotton seed combined with Egypt’s climate produces cotton with extra long fibres and that makes Egyptian Cotton uniquely soft, durable and high quality. This certification was attained in partnership with Sekem, our sustainable organic cotton supplier, who is named on the certificate. Under the Nile is the only baby clothing company authorised to use the certification.
Learn more about the Gold Seal on the Cotton Egypt Association website.

Our products are 'fair traded.' That means that although Under the Nile is not Certified Fair Trade, all products are made in Egypt at a Certified FLO-Cert Fair Trade facility called Sekem. Sekem also includes an on-site organic farm where our cotton is grown. Sekem was founded on principles of sustainable development and provides healthcare, child care and daily organic meals for all workers. Sekem also promotes social justice, gender equality and diversity. We believe in clean, safe and healthy working conditions, as well as dignity and respect for all workers.
